PRESSING MATTERS SUMMER 2008

SHEETWISE SPRING 2008

Employees? We run ‘em ragged!

We certainly get an awful lot of hard work from our employees, and it’s appreciated but even J-Flex lets them have some time off. Do they relax, take it easy? Not if their names are Richard Scott (left) and Steven Bacon (right), cousins who both work for the company.

Combining a desire to raise money for charity with a need to improve
fitness the lads decided to run the London Marathon; one of those decisions that at ome stage they must have regretted signing up to! Training started in earnest last year with sessions at the local gym and pounding the miles on the hard streets of Retford. Come the day, in a great atmosphere and cheered on by their supporters, Richard and Steven set off on their gruelling run. Both were raising money for the British Scoliosis Research Foundation www.bsrf.co.uk a charity dear to their hearts as Richard’s partner had suffered from the condition as a child.

Despite blisters, cramp and enduring pain the lads completed the full marathon – Richard in eight hours, Steven in five - a tremendous achievement which raised over £1,100 for the BSRF. The cousins are proud of their resolve to finish.

And J-Flex is proud of them as well: two great employees with resilience, determination and commitment in work and leisure.

Richard and Steven would like to take this opportunity to thank their families, supporters and sponsors.

Food for thought

FDA Compliant Blue Metal Detectable Silicone Sheet

- of particular interest if you’re in the food or pharmaceutical industries to ensure early detection and containment of contamination.

This sheeting has many essential features. It’s made from FDA listed ingredients and is manufactured in blue, the preferred food colour. It is metal detectable so if, for example, the gasket cut from this material falls into a product mixture it will be detected by standard metal detection equipment; an essential component therefore in contaminate-conscious industries such as food, beverage and pharmaceutical.

Now available from stock in calendered sheet version - Fully Post Cured
- 1.5mm & 3.0mm thicknesses See Spec

Superwoman ‘J-flexes’ her muscles

After ten years of loyal and hard working dedication Michelle Croft has been promoted to the role of Sales Office Manager, whilst retaining responsibility for a number of Key Accounts. The Sales Office is clearly critical to J-Flex’s performance and reputation and Michelle will stamp her own skills and personality on the challenges ahead. As manager, she will be in charge of the day to day flow of general enquiries and order work.

Michelle is not just a number cruncher though. As a veteran of the J-Flex culture she understands the value of good staff and will continue to regularly mentor and develop colleagues to ensure the company’s dedication to provide the best possible customer service is maintained.

The man moves on – the quality stays

The reason J-Flex deserves its exalted reputation is due in no small measure to the quality and permanence of our hard-working colleagues. Our staff turnover is impressively low but sometimes it’s inevitable; even J-Flexees are allowed to retire.

Our highly respected Quality Manager, Terry Scott, took his retirement last December after having joined the company in 1995: previously he was an external consultant who competently steered us through the murky waters of BS5750 and ISO9001 before we captured him for ourselves! Recognising his talents we also entrusted him with training, health & safety, environmental and other key issues. He didn’t disappoint.

We want to offer our sincere thanks and best wishes to Terry. His lovely wife Diane now has the unenviable task of keeping him out of trouble but we expect his passion for Sheffield Wednesday, golf and his grandchildren will ensure a long and happy retirement.

At age 22, Ben Woodward steps up to the challenge of replacing Terry, after having worked alongside him for over a year. The apprentice now becomes the master and Ben is already proving himself more than worthy of the promotion. He works closely with Les Shaw’s Operations Team and can be contacted on (0044) 01777 712408 and ben@ j-flex.co.uk

VITON® SPONGE

J-Flex have many claims to fame where specialised products are concerned. First of all we have the largest stock of Silicone Sheeting available in Europe. We probably also have the largest stock of Genuine Viton® Sheet Products - including 'A', 'B', Nomex Reinforced Insertion & White FDA Compliant grades.

10 years ago we started to promote the sale of Closed Cell Viton® Sponge Sheets in Europe. Our early rewards were minimal - however we firmly believed in this product and that it had a good future so we doubled our sales efforts. Now we have a good selection of regular customers for this material and even manage to find ad-hoc customers in power generation; chemical; oil and other dirty processing industries.

J-Flex Viton® Sponge is a closed cell medium density formulation manufactured with a continuous skin on both sides. This material is resistant to aliphatic & aromatic hydrocarbons; oils; fuels; ozone; weathering; lubricants; animal & vegetable oils etc.
